If it seems strange that past and present members of the armed forces are required to pass a hunter's education course before obtaining an Idaho hunting license, Rep. Lynn Luker, R-Boise, thought so too. Today he introduced a bill before the House Resources and Conservation Committee to exempt current members of the military and veterans from the hunters ed requirement. The committee voted unanimously to print the bill and put it on course for a public hearing.

My wife Helen and I just finished voting. There were a few in line, but it did not take long. I was amazed to see as the workers flipped through the book to find our names how many have voted early. While I understand that some may not be able to make it to the poll on election day and need to vote early, I get a special thrill going to the poll to vote on the designated day. Besides, I would hate to have voted and then have some important fact or event arise which changes my perspective, but be unable to change my vote. May God bless the United States of America on this most important election day.

Upcoming Documentary on America's Longest War: The War on Drugs, "A Holocaust in Slow Motion"

The soon-to-be-released documentary "The House I Live In" is an inside look at America's longest war, The War on Drugs, from executive producers Danny Glover, John Legend, Russell Simons. From the film's website:

"Filmed in more than twenty states, THE HOUSE I LIVE IN tells the stories of individuals at all levels of America’s War on Drugs. From the dealer to the narcotics officer, the inmate to the federal judge, the film offers a penetrating look inside America’s criminal justice system, revealing the profound human rights implications of U.S. drug policy."

Here are some quotes from the trailer above:

"The Drug War is a holocaust in slow motion."

"The Drug War is a war on all Americans."

"You have to understand that the War on Drugs has never been about drugs."

From a review by US News:

Two years after he was elected president in 1969, Richard Nixon first used the phrase "war on drugs," in a tough speech on drug policy. Four decades and more than 40 million drug-related crimes later, the war on drugs is still simmering.

And now, just months before the presidential election, a new documentary "The House I Live In" explores the ways in which that war could be rethought. The film also implicates President Barack Obama, who promised a compassionate drug policy while running for president but requested $25.6 billion for drug enforcement in 2013—the highest yearly total ever.

A reviewer from The Boston Globe says "I'd hate to imply that it's your civic duty to see "The House I Live In" but guess what - it is."

The movie will be in theaters on October 5.

Fire: Environmentalist's Way to Thin the Forests

From Terry Anderson's editorial in today's WSJ "Environmental Protection Up in Smoke":
Environmental laws since the 1970s require public input into federal land-use decisions including logging on national forests. This has led to lawsuits challenging efforts by the U.S. Forest Service to prevent forest fires by thinning out trees (most of which are dead or diseased) and brush by machines and carefully controlled burns. This dead wood is the fuel that feeds catastrophic wildfires.

Removing the fuel reduces the likelihood of fires, and if fires do break out, makes them easier to fight. Meanwhile, the suppression of fires costs the federal government nearly $2.5 billion annually.

A fuels-management project to log and thin 4,800 acres in the Bozeman, Mont., watershed exemplifies the problem. This project has been held up since 2010 on grounds that the environmental-impact assessment did not adequately protect the habitat of the Canadian lynx and the grizzly bear, both listed as threatened species.

Now a wildfire threatens the watershed, burning over 10,000 acres and costing more than $2 million to fight. As one firefighter put it, "fire is the environmentalist's way of thinning the forests."

Idaho Veterinary Licensing Board Wants To Keep Both Application And Licensing Fees When Denying An Application - What Do You ThinK?

To contact us Click HERE
HB 97 would allow the licensing board to keep not only the application fee but also the first year licensing fee which must be paid upon application, even when denying a license for whatever reason. Currently the law provides that the board may keep the application fee but must return the first year licensing fee to the applicant when an application is denied. HB 97 would change that and let the board keep both fees even though the applicant is not granted a license to practice. On the floor I argued that it was like a college requiring an application fee and first semester tuition, but if you were not accepted to the school they could keep your tuition anyway. Twenty-nine other House members joined me in voting against the bill, but it passed narrowly on a 34-30 vote with 6 absent and excused. The bill is now headed to the Senate. What do you think?

We need to keep the feet to the fire and keep pressing these people until we defeat or chase them back to their caves or in other words get rid of them."

Finally - It's Election Day

My wife Helen and I just finished voting. There were a few in line, but it did not take long. I was amazed to see as the workers flipped through the book to find our names how many have voted early. While I understand that some may not be able to make it to the poll on election day and need to vote early, I get a special thrill going to the poll to vote on the designated day. Besides, I would hate to have voted and then have some important fact or event arise which changes my perspective, but be unable to change my vote. May God bless the United States of America on this most important election day.

Neither Rain, Nor Sleet, Nor Snow, Nor Holiday Shall Keep The Legislators From Their Appointed Rounds

So far this session Idaho legislators have battled the elements on many days as they made their way to the capitol. Fortunately, President's Day was not a day of precipitation in Boise. In fact it was a beautiful, though cool day outside. Inside, however, despite the holiday, it was a day of continuing work for Idaho legislators. Morning committees convened as usual to hear and debate bills. Then, as is customary on President's Day, the legislature took time out to pay respects to those colleagues from past years who this year departed from mortal life for the next. I was privileged to honor Lyle R. Cobbs, from Boise, who served in both the House and the Senate and with the Tax Commission. Although I never knew Lyle, he left a legacy as a devoted public servant, a veteran, a man of faith and of family. Others had similar stories. It was a good reminder that as we honor our national presidents with a holiday, particularly Presidents Washington and Lincoln for whom the holiday was originally inaugurated, the day should not be just a day off, but should be a day for reflection, a day to truly think about and thank those who have given so much to create and preserve the liberty that we enjoy.

Rudy and his terrible crew will get US all killed. These folks never quit with their fear mongering, discriminatory, racist, Islamic fascist crap. Never. Once again, Rudy's worthless, despicable "friends" have raised concerns about his "Presidential" intentions.

Welcome, John Deady, the co-chair of state Veterans for Rudy and his penchant for babbling nonsense.
